Large-scale Russian Assaults Cut Power Across Ukraine's Capital

Energy infrastructure targeted in Ukraine
Ukraine's power facilities have come under increased strikes in recent weeks

Overnight, Russian missile and drone strikes have caused electricity outages in multiple districts of Ukraine's capital, the Ukrainian capital.

Several individuals were hurt while residents in eastern neighborhoods were left without electricity and faced disruption to drinking water, according to local authorities.

Meanwhile, a minor was killed in a different aerial attack in the Zaporizhzhia region in the southeastern part, as reported by regional authorities.

Russian forces has intensified attacks on power infrastructure over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has called for "real steps" from partner nations to increase pressure on Russia.

"What is required is not superficial actions but decisive action - from the America, Europe and the Group of Seven - in supplying air defence systems and applying penalties," he wrote in a social media post.

Officials stated that numerous aerial vehicles and over thirty projectiles targeted energy facilities, characterizing such attacks as "premeditated" and against "critical infrastructure" as the weather cools.

Energy officials said Moscow was "launching a major assault" and maintenance teams were working to restore power.

A barrage of missiles damaged energy infrastructure and residential structures in the capital.

Multiple people injured in the assaults on the city have been transported for medical care, per statements from city authorities.

Regional authorities said the urban area came under heavy assaults during nighttime hours. A young boy died and multiple civilians were injured.

The attacks succeed nights of bombing campaigns in the area, parts of which are currently controlled by Russian forces.

All of Ukraine is on alert for sophisticated projectile assaults, which are tougher to spot.

Authorities told reporters that Russia was intentionally trying to destroy the electrical infrastructure, with attacks already affecting energy systems.

Officials stated technical personnel and officials were bracing for additional strikes.
