The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
Season 1 introduces a large cast of characters residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people make a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
